The Indian film fraternity came together to bid an emotional farewell to veteran filmmaker, actor, writer, and producer K. Bhagyaraj who passed away at the age of 73 following a heart attack. The celebrated filmmaker breathed his last at Apollo Hospital.

Mammootty, Dileep and Jayaram pay their respects

Superstar Mammootty expressed his condolences through a brief message on social media. He wrote, “RIP Bhagyaraj. Heartfelt condolences.”Actor Dileep, who shared screen space with Bhagyaraj in ‘Mr. Marumakan’, visited the veteran filmmaker’s residence to offer his final respects. Jayaram also paid homage to the late director.

Rajinikanth and Sarathkumar remember a master storyteller

Sarathkumar remembered Bhagyaraj as a close family friend and opened up on meeting him just days before his passing.As reported by The Hindu, he said, “The news of the passing of our family’s close friend, K. Bhagyaraj, with whom we were chatting just two days ago at Khushbu’s daughter’s wedding, has come as a profound shock and caused us immense grief. Celebrated as ‘king of screenplay’, he carved a permanent place in the hearts of audiences through countless classics. With his distinctive blend of humour and emotion, he beautifully portrayed the lives of ordinary people, family relationships, and social realities. He was a rare artist who made people laugh while also making them think. His films, unique screenplay style, and timeless dialogues will continue to live on in the hearts of the people.”Rajinikanth also visited Bhagyaraj’s residence to pay homage. Remembering his five-decade journey in cinema, the superstar said, “For fifty years, in the Tamil film industry, through his extraordinary talent and creativity, he has given many successful films and earned an indelible place in the hearts of Tamil people. His sudden passing has caused immense sorrow and shock. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul find peace.”

Prithviraj Sukumaran pays emotional tribute

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran also remembered the filmmaker with whom he collaborated in the 2006 film ‘Parijatham’. Sharing an emotional message on Instagram Stories, he wrote, “Rest in peace sir! Being directed by you will always remain a privilege I hold close to my heart! A true legend of the art!”

State honours announced for the veteran filmmaker

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay visited Bhagyaraj’s residence to pay his last respects. Earlier, the Chief Minister’s Office announced that the veteran filmmaker would receive state honours during his funeral in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to Tamil cinema.Kerala CM V.D. Satheesan, also mourned Bhagyaraj’s demise. He said, “Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran Tamil actor, director, and screenwriter K. Bhagyaraj. Revered as the ‘Screenplay King,’ he redefined storytelling in Tamil cinema with his unique creative vision and unforgettable performances. He also shared a special bond with Malayalam cinema — his memorable role in Mr. Marumakan continues to be fondly remembered by fans in Keralam. Heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and countless fans. May his soul rest in peace.”
